【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=배움의 시기를 잃어버린 지역주민들에게 만학의 꿈을 지켜온 단양야간학교가 단양야간학교 통합교실에서 지난 11월 27일에 값진 스물다섯 번째 졸업식을 개최했다고 밝혔다.

이날 졸업식에는 2025년 1차 및 2차 검정고시에 합격한 졸업생 8명과 가족들, 야간학교 교사, 김문근 단양군수, 이상훈 단양군의회의장, 오영탁 충청북도의원 등 40여명 참석해 뜻깊은 졸업의 기쁨을 함께했다. 

금년도 고등과정 검정고시에 합격하여 영예로운 졸업장을 받은 이 모씨(63세)는 “바쁜 일상으로 포기하고 싶은 순간들도 정말 많았지만, 선생님들의 애정 어린 가르침과 같이 배움을 함께한 학우들의 열정에 힘입어 오늘 의미있는 졸업장을 받을 수 있었다”며 고마움을 전했다.

지난 2000년에 처음 문을 연 단양야간학교는 25년의 세월 동안 변함없이 자리를 지키며 배움에 목마른 주민들의 갈증을 해소하고, 더 높은 길로 인도하는 평생학습의 등대 역할을 충실히 수행하여 왔다.  

야간학교 자원봉사자 선생님들과 학생들의 꾸준한 노력의 결과, 금년도 졸업생을 포함하여 누적 졸업생이 200명(총 201명)을 넘는 성과를 달성하기도 했다.

단양성인문해지원센터에 자리한 단양야간학교는 한글 미해독자를 포함한 초등학교, 중학교, 고등학교 검정고시 과정을 전액 무료로 운영하고 있고, 자원봉사 교사와 못다한 배움의 뜻을 이루고자 하는 학생을 상시 모집하고 있다.

이상곤 교장은 “오랜 노하우를 가진 20여 명의 재능 나눔 선생님들과 함께, 만학의 꿈을 이루고자 하는 주민들을 위해 365일 단양야간학교의 문을 열어놓고 있다”며 “배움의 시작은 작은 용기에서부터 시작하니, 언제든 단양야간학교에 문을 두드려 주시길 바란다”고 말했다.

Danyang Night School, which has preserved the dream of a full-time education for local residents who have lost their chance to learn, announced that it held its 25th graduation ceremony on November 27th in its integrated classroom.

The ceremony was attended by eight graduates who passed the first and second qualification exams in 2025, along with their families, night school teachers, Danyang County Mayor Kim Moon-geun, Danyang County Council Chairman Lee Sang-hoon, and North Chungcheong Province Council Member Oh Young-tak. Approximately 40 people attended, sharing in the meaningful joy of graduation.

Mr. Lee (63), who passed the high school qualification exam this year and received an honorable diploma, expressed his gratitude, saying, "There were many moments when I wanted to give up due to my busy schedule, but thanks to the loving guidance of my teachers and the passion of my fellow students, I was able to receive this meaningful diploma today." Danyang Night School, which first opened in 2000, has remained steadfast for 25 years, quenching the thirst for learning for residents and faithfully serving as a beacon of lifelong learning, guiding them on a higher path.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of night school volunteers and students, the cumulative number of graduates has surpassed 200 (201 total), including this year's graduating class.

Hosted at the Danyang Adult Literacy Support Center, Danyang Night School offers free elementary, middle, and high school qualification exam preparation courses, including for students who cannot read or write Hangul. It is always recruiting volunteer teachers and students who wish to pursue their unfulfilled educational aspirations.

Principal Lee Sang-gon stated, "With the help of over 20 talented teachers with extensive experience, Danyang Night School is open 365 days a year for residents who aspire to pursue their dreams of full-time education.
