【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=(재)충주문화관광재단(이하 재단)은 지역문화콘텐츠 개발 사업의 일환인 입체퍼포먼스극 ‘범등에 달 오를 때 용꼬리가 너희를 지키리라’를 오는 12월 19일(금) 충주음악창작소 공연장에서 선보인다.

이번 공연은 지난 2024년 재단이 주최한 ‘충주 트리트먼트 공모전’의 대상에 선정된 작품으로, 이를 연극으로 각색하여 ‘충주 장미산성 축성 설화’를 모티브로 창작한 입체퍼포먼스극이다.

이번 공연 ‘범등에 달 오를 때 용꼬리가 너희를 지키리라’는 고구려‧백제‧신라가 각축전을 벌인 550년 삼국시대 충주(국원) 지역을 배경으로 한 작품으로, 고구려와 신라의 대결에 휘말려 사라져 간 충주 사람들의 삶을 다루는 이야기이다. 고구려 장수로서 원대한 포부를 가진 누나 ‘동보련’과 생존의 길을 모색하며 치열하게 고민하는 남동생 ‘동장미’, 너무 다른 두 남매의 행보에 결단을 내려야만 하는 어머니 ‘동나실’의 이야기를 무대에 담아낼 예정이다. 이처럼 충주를 배경으로 한 애절하면서도 치열한 과거로의 여행이 될 이번 연극은 충주 시민들에게 따듯한 감동을 선사할 것으로 기대된다.

특히 이번 연극은 ▲ 청주대 연극영화학부 하경화 교수가 연출을 맡았으며, 창작극 <갑신의 거><카츄샤는 흘러간다> 등을 쓴 ▲ 위기훈 작가 와 ▲남기오 음악감독 ▲ 김경규 영상감독 등 각 분야에서 탄탄한 이력을 쌓아온 창작진들이 참여해 작품의 완성도를 한층 끌어올렸다.

재단 관계자는 “이번 작품은 충주의 문화유산을 소재로 할 뿐만 아니라, 충주 예술인들이 직접 배우로 참여한다는 점에서 의미가 더욱 크다”라며, “이번 공연을 시작으로 장기적으로는 충주시민은 물론 충주를 찾는 관광객에게도 ‘충주를 대표하는 문화콘텐츠’로 자리매김하길 기대한다.”라고 전했다.

The Chungju Culture and Tourism Foundation (hereafter, the Foundation) will present the three-dimensional performance "When the Moon Rises on Beomdeung, the Dragon's Tail Will Protect You," as part of its local cultural content development project, at the Chungju Music Creation Center on Friday, December 19th.

This performance is a theatrical adaptation of the work selected as the grand prize winner of the "Chungju Treatment Contest" hosted by the Foundation in 2024. Based on the motif of the "Chungju Jangmisanseong Fortress Construction Tale," this three-dimensional performance is a masterpiece.

This production, "When the Moon Rises on the Beomdeung, the Dragon's Tail Will Protect You," is set in the Chungju (Gukwon) region during the Three Kingdoms period of 550 years, when Goguryeo, Baekje, and Silla were at war. It tells the story of the people of Chungju, who were caught up in the conflict between Goguryeo and Silla and disappeared. The play will portray the lives of Dong Bo-ryeon, an older sister with grand ambitions as a Goguryeo general; Dong Jang-mi, a younger brother struggling to find a way to survive; and Dong Na-sil, a mother who must make a decision regarding the lives of these two siblings. This poignant yet intense journey back in time, set in Chungju, is expected to warmly resonate with the citizens of Chungju.

Notably, this play was directed by Professor Ha Kyung-hwa of the Department of Theater and Film at Cheongju University. The production team, including writer Wi Ki-hoon, who wrote original plays such as "Gapshin's Geo" and "Katyusha Flows," music director Nam Gi-o, and video director Kim Kyung-kyu, each with a solid track record in their respective fields, further enhanced the production's quality.

A foundation representative stated, "This production is even more meaningful because it not only draws on Chungju's cultural heritage but also features Chungju artists as actors." They added, "We hope that this performance, starting with this one, will establish the play as a representative cultural content of Chungju in the long term, not only for Chungju citizens but also for tourists visiting Chungju."
