문화체육관광부가 주최하는 K-뮤지엄 지역 순회전시 및 투어 지원사업인 '뮤지엄 이음'의 일환으로 마련된 이번 전시는 안동 송강미술관이 주관을 맡았다. 수도권과 대도시에 집중되었던 문화예술 향유 기회를 지역으로 확산하고 균형 있는 문화 생태계를 조성하기 위해 기획된 행사다.

이번 특별전은 우리에게 친숙한 하회탈을 단순한 민속 유물을 넘어 뛰어난 조형미와 공동체 정신이 담긴 상징적 매개체로 재해석하여 총 4개 섹션으로 다채롭게 선보인다.

첫 번째 섹션에서는 김동표 장인이 복원한 하회탈을 통해 국보 하회탈 고유의 전통미와 조형적 가치를 입증한다. 두 번째와 세 번째 섹션에서는 이희복 작가의 하회탈 상반신 도자 작품과 권준 작가의 '하회탈춤 12마당' 회화를 배치하여, 전통문화가 현대 미술의 언어로 새롭게 재해석되는 예술적 확장을 보여준다. 마지막 섹션에서는 국가무형유산인 하회별신굿탈놀이 전승자들과 광대들의 생생한 공연 현장 사진을 전시해 하회탈이 지금까지 살아 숨 쉬는 문화유산임을 강조한다.

관람객을 위한 맞춤형 참여 프로그램도 알차게 준비된다. 전문 도슨트의 상시 전시 해설과 함께 나만의 탈을 만들고 하회탈춤을 직접 배워보는 '탈 만들어, 탈을 막자' 체험을 운영하여 어린이와 가족 단위 방문객까지 즐길 수 있는 복합 문화 공간을 연출한다.

송강미술관 관계자는 이번 전시가 보고 즐기는 체험이 결합된 복합 문화콘텐츠라며, 하회탈이 지닌 예술성과 공동체 정신이 전국으로 확산되어 대한민국을 대표하는 K-문화콘텐츠로 널리 알려지고 지역 간 문화교류가 활성화되기를 희망한다고 말했다.
