【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=돌탑을 중심으로 마을의 안녕과 풍요를 기원해 온 전통 민속의례 '옥천 마을 탑제'가 충청북도 무형유산 신규 종목으로 지정 예고됐다.

옥천 마을 탑제는 주민들이 함께 제물과 비용을 모으고 제를 올리는 등 마을 전체가 참여하는 방식으로 전승되어 온 민속 신앙이다. 금강 유역이라는 지형적 특성을 활용해 주변에서 쉽게 얻을 수 있는 돌을 쌓아 탑을 조성하는 등 지역 특유의 향토성을 띠고 있다.

이번 지정 예고에서는 일제강점기와 현대화 과정에서 발생한 철거 및 훼손 위기 속에서도 주민들이 자생적으로 제례를 지켜왔다는 점이 높이 평가됐다. 자연에 대한 경외와 상부상조라는 공동체 정신을 상징하며, 현재도 마을 보존회와 주민회를 중심으로 전승이 이어지고 있어 지역 통합에 기여하고 있다는 분석이다.
