고 최일신 선생은 1919년 4월 4일 충남 아산군 일대에서 일제의 국권 침탈에 맞서 격렬한 독립만세운동에 참여해 민족의 독립 의지를 높이 선양한 공로를 인정받아 지난 2021년 대통령 표창이 추서됐다. 그러나 당시에는 후손의 소재가 확인되지 않아 표창을 전달하지 못하다가, 최근 국가보훈부 독립유공자 후손확인위원회의 추적조사를 통해 유족의 신원이 마침내 확인되면서 이번 전수식이 성사됐다.
