증평군은 대전지방국토관리청 보은국토관리사무소가 추진해 온 국도34호선 반탄교 확장공사가 순조롭게 마무리 단계에 접어들어 오는 9월 조기 준공을 앞두고 있다고 밝혔다.

총사업비 25억 원이 투입된 이번 공사는 기존 2차로였던 반탄교 교량을 3차로로 확장하고 우회전 전용차로 1개 라인을 새롭게 신설하는 사업이다.

증평과 충주, 보령 방면을 잇는 국도34호선의 핵심 교량인 반탄교는 하행선 구간에서 직진 차량과 우회전 차량이 동일한 차로를 혼용하면서 병목 현상이 심화해 주민들이 큰 통행 불편을 겪어왔다. 이에 증평군은 주민 의견을 적극 수렴해 대전지방국토관리청에 지속적으로 도로 확장을 건의했고, 국토관리청이 이를 수용하면서 사업이 본격 착수됐다.
