행사를 주재한 이상천 제천시장은 인터뷰를 통해 "오늘날 우리가 누리는 자유와 번영의 대한민국은 오직 조국의 독립을 위해 온몸을 던진 독립유공자들의 숭고한 희생이 있었기에 가능했다"며 "독립유공자와 그 유가족을 향한 깊은 존경의 마음을 바탕으로, 숭고한 독립정신이 지역사회 내에 확고한 보훈 문화로 자리 잡을 수 있도록 지속해서 관심과 지원을 아끼지 않겠다"고 밝혔다.
