보은군은 지난 8월 6일부터 10일까지 5일간 보은공설운동장에서 열린 제55회 추계 전국 중·고등학교 육상경기대회 겸 제14회 추계 전국 초등학교 육상경기대회가 철저한 안전 관리 속에 성료했다고 밝혔다.

한국중·고육상연맹이 주최하고 보은군육상연맹과 공동 주관한 이번 대회에는 전국 초·중·고교 선수 및 관계자 3,500여 명이 참가해 총 122개 종목에서 기량을 겨루었다. 가혹한 무더위 속에서도 선수들의 투혼이 이어지며 중학부 한국신기록을 포함해 총 16개의 신기록이 수립되는 등 화제작을 남겼다. 특히 보은여중 홍가온 선수가 여중부 창던지기 동메달을 따내는 등 지역 출신 유망주들도 홈 관중의 응원 속에 선전했다.
