Chungju City Recruits Participants for Convergence Cultural Arts Creation Project Combining Tradition and Media Art

Call for Entries for ‘THE NEXT SHOW II,’ Meeting Cutting-Edge Technology

Chungju City and the Chungju Culture & Tourism Foundation’s Cultural City Center are recruiting participants until the 28th for ‘THE NEXT SHOW II,’ a project aimed at discovering unique local convergence cultural content and boosting the creative capabilities of artists as part of the Republic of Korea’s Cultural City initiative.

This project is a Chungju-style convergence content support program that creates and produces new content by combining cutting-edge technologies—such as media art, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality—with Chungju’s diverse cultural resources. The first phase of the project demonstrated the high potential for the development of convergence content by producing a total of eight distinctive works, including ‘Samulnori TIME BLEND,’ which combined traditional Samulnori with AI-based media art and recorded a sold-out run.

Building on the achievements of the first phase, the second phase has expanded participation opportunities for young artists by newly introducing the ‘Y-Track’ to discover their creative ideas and develop them into actual works. The open call is operated through four distinct tracks: youth promotion, idea creation, artwork production, and secondary advanced production. By providing integrated support from idea discovery to advanced development, the program aims to simultaneously secure both the completeness and competitiveness of the content.

Any artist or art organization residing in Chungju City is eligible to apply, and applications will be accepted until 6:00 PM on the upcoming 28th.

An official from the Chungju Cultural City Center, who planned the event, expressed hope that local artists would reinterpret Chungju’s culture and resources through their own unique perspectives to create innovative convergence content. The official also stated that they would spare no effort in providing customized support at each stage to ensure fresh ideas materialize into high-quality works and grow into sustainable content.
