Korea Expressway Corporation Chungbuk Regional Headquarters Supports Daily Life Recovery for Residents at Risk of Lonely Death in Jincheon
The Chungbuk Regional Headquarters of the Korea Expressway Corporation has stepped forward to assist middle-aged single-person households in the Jincheon area who are at risk of "lonely death" (dying alone without anyone noticing) ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
On the 15th, the headquarters visited the Jincheon County Office and donated 3 million won worth of "Onnuri" gift certificates to aid the recovery of daily life for middle-aged individuals facing the risk of dying alone.
This initiative was organized in response to the growing social issue of lonely deaths among the middle-aged, driven by the rise in single-person households and the breakdown of social connections. According to the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s 2024 survey on lonely deaths, individuals in their 50s (30.5%) and 60s (32.4%) accounted for approximately two-thirds of the total 3,924 recorded cases.
The Chungbuk Regional Headquarters is providing these gift certificates to 30 households in Jincheon County identified as being at risk; the county government will directly select the recipients—those struggling due to social isolation—and distribute the aid.
Im Jong-taek, Head of the Chungbuk Regional Headquarters, emphasized that the risk of dying alone is not always immediately apparent, making attentive care from the local community crucial. He pledged to continue providing tailored support that meets the region's practical needs.
The Chungbuk Regional Headquarters continues to carry out social contribution activities aligned with local welfare needs, such as providing childcare supplies to low-income families and offering assistance to households affected by disasters or accidents.
