Okcheon County Council Passes Bill to Establish 5-Year Basic Plan for Expanding City Gas Supply in Vulnerable Areas
The Okcheon County Council has strengthened the institutional foundation to enhance the energy welfare of local residents and systematically expand the city gas supply network.
The Okcheon County Council held the second plenary session of the 335th 1st Regular Meeting and finally passed the "Ordinance Amending the Entire Ordinance on Subsidies for Okcheon County City Gas Supply Projects," which was proposed by Representative Ahn Hyo-ik.
This ordinance amendment was prepared to overcome the limitations of the existing fragmentary subsidy support system and to establish a policy framework to promote the supply of city gas throughout Okcheon County from a mid-to-long-term perspective.
The main point of the amended ordinance is to establish and implement a basic plan for expanding city gas supply every five years, and to prepare detailed annual implementation plans accordingly. In addition, it newly stipulates the basis for fact-finding surveys to accurately assess the status and conditions of city gas supply by region, thereby supporting policies for expanding a sustainable supply network. Chairman Ahn Hyo-ik pointed out that since city gas is a basic energy essential to the daily lives of county residents, there should be no disparities in usage based on residential area or income level. He emphasized that, taking this amendment to the ordinance as an opportunity, he would work closely with the executive branch to ensure that tangible benefits continue to reach underprivileged groups and areas with limited access to city gas.
