이번 전시는 충북 미술교육을 위해 평생 헌신하다 퇴임한 미술교사들의 노고에 대한 감사와 추억을 담아낸 전시로 미술작품을 통해 다시 스승을 만나 볼 수 있도록 기획되었다.
전시에 참여한 작가는 1960·70년대 근대화 시기와 80년대 민주화운동 시기, 불모지와 같은 어려운 교육환경에서 미술교사로서 충북 미술교육의 기반을 다지고 후학 양성을 위해 힘썼던 35명의 퇴임 교원들이다.
이번 전시에서는 그동안 충북 미술의 현장에서 작가로 교육자로, 오로지 교육적 열정으로 미술교육에 힘썼던 학창시절 선생님의 작품과 당시 사용하였던 교육 자료를 함께 만나 볼 수 있다.
특히, 초창기 교사의 모습과 열악한 교육환경에서 학생들과 함께한 교육활동 사진, 수업 모습, 수학여행, 야영수련, 교무실의 옛 모습, 까까머리 학생의 모습 등도 볼 수 있으며, 미술 수업에 사용한 슬라이드와 미술 잡지 등 미술교육 자료도 함께 전시된다.
또한 우리나라 미술교육의 흐름을 볼 수 있는 미술교과서가 전시되어 일제강점기부터 해방 전후 및 1960년대 이후 사용한 100여 권도 함께 볼 수 있다.
교육문화원 전시 관계자는 “작품을 통해 옛 스승을 만나 볼 수 있는 소중한 전시이자 교육자료 및 교육활동도 함께 볼 수 있어 충북 미술교육의 과거와 현재, 미래를 살펴보는 시간여행이 될 것이다”라고 말했다.
