E-Hallabong·U-Go Volunteer Corps, Educational Volunteer Blooms Beyond Borders

-im changyong reporter

Chungbuk National University (President Kim Su-gap) students' passion for educational service overcame the epidemic. According to Chungbuk National University, E-Hallabong (Online Korea Guatemala Nicaragua Education Volunteer Corps) supported by the National Institute of International Education and U-Go Volunteer Corps supported by the Chungbuk National University Student Affairs Office are united to successfully operate non-face-to-face online educational volunteer activities in Latin America. said.

This educational service was conducted from January 10 to January 28, targeting elementary and middle school students attending the Angel's House and the Girl's House in Guatemala and the Korean Christian Academy in Nicaragua.

To this end, the volunteers have been preparing classes by selecting topics such as K-pop, taekwondo, science, math, creativity, and sex education since last year. And I have been preparing everything for the class, such as writing a Spanish script.

The class consisted of a total of 14 topics and was held for one week at each school. In particular, at Angel's House, a protection and education facility for children victims of violence, they held a contest by learning K-pop videos and gave lectures on how to take good care of their precious bodies through sex education. At the Korean Christian School, students wearing Taekwondo uniforms and belts learned one Taegeuk, and T-shirt designs made using the elements of the periodic table and repeating tessellations were displayed on the school wall.

At the girl's house, one cube was provided to each student to make observations and reasoning. In addition, various classes are being conducted, such as surviving in the desert, finding periodic table patterns, creative math quiz, origami of endangered animals, light synthesis, capillary and total reflection, and maple seed making.

Above all, in Central and South America, there is a 15-hour time difference with Korea, making it difficult to conduct online classes in real time. proceed with Above all, efforts to lower the language barrier shone. Although I am getting some help with Korean and Spanish interpretation, I have put a lot of effort into studying Spanish for free communication because classes have to be conducted in Spanish. Classes are sometimes interrupted due to poor internet connection with the local area, but they are overcoming it with a desire to learn.

Professor Jae-Young Han, the head of the two volunteer groups, said, “You can experience the true meaning of volunteering through online overseas volunteering, but it is still lacking compared to volunteer work that you experience in person. In the future, as Corona is under control, I want to go to Latin America with college students to continue to interact with each other through education.”
