특히 김 지사는 추진전략에 대한 전반적인 설명 이후 청남대 본관 전면 개방방안, 생태환경 중심의 트리하우스 조성방안, 도청 잔디광장 조성방안, 舊산업장려관 활용방안, 친환경･무동력을 이용한 다양한 레포츠 시설 확충방안 등 세부과제도 직접 도면을 활용해 일일이 설명하는 등 충북 레이크파크 르네상스 추진에 대한 강력한 의지와 확신을 표명했다. 

충북 레이크파크 르네상스는 기본적으로 수(水)자원, 산림자원, 폐자원의 가치 재발견에 중점을 두고 추진하는 선도사업이다. 넓게는 창조적 혁신을 토대로 담대한 구상과 과감한 실행력 그리고 따스한 도정이 결합된 ‘더 살기 좋은 충북’ 프로젝트로서 도정 全분야에 걸쳐 추진되는 민선 8기 핵심 전략사업을 아우른다.

주요사업으로는 트리하우스 조성, 체류형 힐링･휴양공간 확대, 충청북도 제2수목원 조성, 국가(지방) 정원 및 생태탐방로 조성, 동서트레일 조성 등이 있다. 

셋째, 시티 파크 분야는 폐자원에 대한 재해석･리싸이클을 통해 도민의 삶의 질을 제고하고, 원도심 및 농어촌의 생활･정주여건 개선을 통한 생활인구 확대를 위해 추진된다.

주요사업으로는 탄소중립 사회로의 전환, 환경보전을 통한 지속 가능한 발전체계 마련, 도청 개방 및 원도심 활성화, 체류형 귀농･귀촌 지원시설 확대, 충북형 스마트팜 첨단농업 확대 등이 있다. 

다음으로, 3대 권역별 중점사업을 살펴보면, 첫째, 대청호권은 청주･보은･옥천･영동이 속하며 17개 소권역에 121개 과제 2조 369.8억원의 사업비가 투자된다. 

주요사업으로 청주에는 무심천과 미호강 친수공간 조성사업･대청호 둘레길 조성사업, 보은에는 비룡호수 관광단지 조성･ 대청호 수변지역 개발사업, 옥천에는 대청호 친환경 수상교통망 구축사업･옥천군 평생교육원 건립사업, 영동에는 노지포도 스마트단지 조성사업･지역특화 임대형 스마트팜 조성사업 등이 추진된다.

둘째, 충주호권은 충주･제천･단양이 속하며 12개 소권역에 123개 과제 3조3050억 원의 사업비가 투자된다. 

주요사업으로 충주에는 중원종합휴양레저타운 조성사업･심항산발길순환루트 치유힐링공간 조성사업, 제천에는 옥순봉∼구담봉 전망 잔도길 조성사업･청풍호반길 조성(2단계), 단양에는 시루섬 생태탐방교(야간조명포함) 건립･단양역 관광시설 개발사업 등이 추진된다.

충북도는 이번 추진계획의 실행력을 높일 수 있도록  지역 정치권 및 시민･사회단체와 연대해 ‘중부내륙연계발전지역 지원에 관한 특별법’ 제정에도 더욱 속도를 내고, 특별조정교부금･균형발전특별회계･지방소멸대응기금 등 도의 가용재원을 최대한 활용할 계획이다. 

또한 사업 추진 시 수반되는 각종 문제점 점검과 개선책 마련을 위해 충북 레이크파크 르네상스 민관위원회는 물론 환경, 시민‧단체 등 다양한 분야별 전문가와 유관단체의 의견도 적극 수렴하여 반영한다는 방침이다.
