이날 교육에는 총 57명의 고용주가 참석했으며, 근로기준법과 인권 보호, 무단이탈 발생 시 대응 방안 등 외국인 계절근로자 고용에 있어 반드시 알아야 할 핵심 내용을 중심으로 진행됐다.

군은 지난 2016년부터 외국인 계절근로자 유치 사업을 꾸준히 추진해왔으며, 매년 그 규모를 점차 확대해오고 있다.

올해는 87농가를 대상으로 총 375명의 계절근로자를 유치할 계획이며, 이탈률이 거의 없는 안정적인 운영 성과를 바탕으로 법무부로부터 ‘외국인 계절근로자 운영 우수 지자체’로 선정되기도 했다.

외국인 계절근로자는 농촌의 만성적인 일손 부족을 해소하는 데 핵심적인 역할을 하고 있으며, 군은 본격적인 영농철인 3월~4월 사이에 집중적으로 근로자를 입국시켜 인력난 해소에 적극 나설 예정이다.

김문근 단양군수는 “외국인 계절근로자들은 낯선 환경에서도 묵묵히 일하며 지역 농업에 큰 힘이 되어주는 고마운 분들”이라며 “고용주 여러분께서도 가족처럼 따뜻한 마음으로 배려하고, 사랑과 정성으로 함께해 주시길 바란다”고 말했다.
