그는 “장 대표의 주장은 단순한 ‘관점 존중’이 아니라, 4·3 항쟁을 비롯한 우리 현대사를 왜곡하고 일제 식민지배를 미화하려는 뉴라이트 역사관의 위장된 구호”라며 “민족 최대 명절에 4·3 희생자와 유가족의 가슴에 또 한 번 깊은 상처를 남겼다”고 비판했다.

이 의원은 또한 “양민에 대한 학살과 폭력은 관점의 문제가 아니라 명백한 범죄”라며 “역사적 진실을 이념 논쟁으로 끌어올리는 행위는 희생자에 대한 모욕이자, 국민 통합을 저해하는 위험한 정치 행태”라고 지적했다.

이어 “뉴라이트 세력은 ‘다양한 관점’이라는 미명 아래 친일·극우 논리를 퍼뜨리며 국가폭력 가해자들을 영웅화해왔다”며 “장동혁 대표가 이와 같은 주장을 반복하는 것은 뉴라이트의 역사관을 그대로 드러낸 것”이라고 비판했다.

이 의원은 “장동혁 대표는 더 이상 당대표직을 유지할 자격이 없다”며 “진상규명위원회 소관 상임위인 행정안전위원으로서, 모욕당한 국민과 4·3 피해자들을 대신해 즉각적인 사퇴를 강력히 요구한다”고 밝혔다.
