시민연대가 제시한 자료에 따르면 청주시 동 지역 가정용 하수도 요금은 ㎥당 1,140원으로 인구 50만 이상 19개 시 중 가장 높다.

월 20㎥를 사용하는 청주 동 지역 가정은 월 22,800원을 납부하는데, 이는 타 시 지역 대비 매월 최소 5,800원에서 최대 16,800원을 더 부담하는 수준이다.

2024년 기준 가정용 하수도 요금 단가는 1,005.6원으로 19개 시 중 최고가를 기록했다. 반면 인구 50만 이상 18개 시의 하수도 요금은 ㎥당 300원에서 850원 수준이다.

청주시는 그동안 요금 현실화율이 90%에 미치지 못하고 지난 10년간 적자를 기록했다고 설명해왔다.
