【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=진천군이 주민들이 직접 지역 사업과 예산을 결정하는 2026년 주민자치회 주민총회를 순차적으로 개최한다.

진천군은 지난 8월 28일 문백면을 시작으로 오는 9월 19일까지 관내 7개 읍·면을 돌며 주민총회를 진행한다고 2일 밝혔다.

주민총회는 지역 주민들이 모여 동네에 필요한 사업을 논의하고 투표를 통해 최종 사업을 확정하는 실질적인 주민자치 의결 기구다. 각 읍·면 주민자치회가 지난 1년 동안 발굴한 자치 계획안을 바탕으로 의견을 나누고 사업의 우선순위를 결정하게 된다. 이번 총회에서는 2027년도 자치계획과 주민세 환원 사업이 주민 투표로 최종 결정될 예정이다.

진천군은 현장 참석이 어려운 주민들을 고려해 QR코드를 활용한 온라인 투표와 오프라인 사전투표를 함께 운영한다. 이와 함께 주민 프로그램 발표회, 걷기대회, 주민 노래자랑 등 다양한 부대행사를 마련해 마을 축제의 장으로 꾸밀 계획이다.

진천군 주민자치회는 2013년 진천읍에서 전국 최초로 시범 운영을 시작해 2021년 7개 읍·면 전체 전환을 완료하는 등 전국적인 선도 모델로 평가받아 왔다. 올 10월부터 지방자치법 개정에 따라 전국적으로 주민자치회가 본격 시행되면서 진천군의 앞선 운영 경험과 노하우가 더욱 관심을 모으고 있다.
