Representative Lee Jong-bae, representative proposal of amendment to the income tax law to deduct the tax credits for college application fees and admissions fees

【Break News Chungbuk】 Reporter Kim Byeong-joo = Rep. Jong-bae Lee (Chungju, 3rd line), Chairman of the Power of the People's Forces Policy Committee, said on the 15th, the'Income Tax Law', which adds the college entrance examination fee and admission fee to the special tax deduction education fee category. The amendment' was proposed as a representative.

The current SAT exam fee is 37,000 won to 47,000 won depending on the test item, and as of 2019, the average admission fee for universities in the metropolitan area is 58800 won and 52,000 won for private universities.

Considering that the number of applications for college is up to nine times, admission fees, etc., are a significant economic burden on middle and low-income households with test takers. There is no situation.

The only support is the measure that the Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation has expanded the SAT exam fee exemption from 2017 from recipients of basic living to the next higher level of the law and those who are eligible for protection of single-parent families.

There is no application fee support at any time. Although most of the high school candidates are required to pay for college admission, there is a lack of policy considerations such as investment of national finances or tax support.

In addition, considering that free high school education will be fully implemented this year, and the government supports admission fees, tuition fees, and school operation support fees, it is pointed out that the university entrance examination fees, which the majority of high school students spend, should also be provided with institutional support such as tax credits.

Accordingly, Rep. Jong-bae Lee proposed an amendment to add the examination fee and admission screening fee for admission to higher education institutions prescribed by Presidential Decree, such as schools under Article 2 of the Higher Education Act, in the category of special tax credit education expenses.

Rep. Lee Jong-bae said, “Including regular admissions, essay writing, and practical skills are diversified, the economic burden on the households of working income earners is not small.” ”Said the purpose of initiating the bill.
