Korea Gas Safety Corporation calls for gas safety in preparation for natural disasters in summer

Frequent check of drainage status in preparation for flooding of gas facilities in the rainy season

Beware of direct sunlight exposure to gas facilities during heatwaves

-im changyong reporter

On the 15th, the Korea Gas Safety Corporation (CEO Lim Hae-jong) urged the strengthening of gas safety management in preparation for natural disasters and full-scale heat this summer.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the climate this summer is expected to be higher than normal and hotter than usual, and heavy rain is likely to occur, so it is recommended that gas facilities be fully managed.

In particular, as the longest rainy season in history last year (June 24 - August 16, 54, 20 June) and a large amount of precipitation caused great damage, KDHC provided safety rules to be observed by the public and gas industry workers in order to preemptively prepare for gas accidents. and strengthen accident prevention activities.

Prepare for typhoons, heavy rains, and rainy seasons (rainy seasons)

In order to prevent gas accidents in preparation for typhoons and heavy rains, it is necessary to check that the connection parts of gas hoses, pipes, and containers are not loose in households and workplaces (gas-using facilities) that use gas, and prepare for the gas facilities to be submerged in water do. In addition, before using a submerged gas range or pressure regulator, safety must be ensured through preliminary inspection of the manufacturer and supplier.

In gas supply facilities, sandbags to prevent flooding should be installed in storage tank rooms and container storage rooms where there is a risk of flooding in low-lying areas, and drainage conditions should be checked frequently.

In addition, in households using LPG, it is safe to store the LPG container in a safe place and fix it so that it does not move.

Prepare for the heat wave (hot season)

In preparation for the summer heat wave, it is helpful to secure safety by installing a shading screen so that facilities such as container valves and pressure regulators are not exposed to direct sunlight, and by thoroughly managing the gas container storage room.

In addition, in order to prevent damage or abnormality of gas containers and tanks due to sudden temperature rise in summer, thorough safety management and appropriate measures should be taken.

Therefore, from this month to the end of August, the Korea Gas Safety Corporation will participate in the special safety inspection of CNG buses in the summer led by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport along with the Transportation Safety Authority and local governments.

These institutions inspect all about 25,000 CNG buses and perform 10% decompression filling of the compressed natural gas (CNG) bus gas filling pressure to prevent rupture of the pressure-resistant container due to temperature rise.

Lim Hae-jong, president of Korea Gas Safety Corporation, said, “Summer is a time when accidents due to natural disasters are highly probable, so accident prevention activities are important. different,” he said.
