Residents of Hwanggan-myeon, Yeongdong, Chungcheongbuk-do oppose the construction of high-voltage transmission towers

On the 17th, the ‘Task Committee Against High-Voltage Transmission Tower in Hwanggan-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do,’ held a press conference opposing the construction of a high-voltage (154,000 volt) transmission line planned to be installed between Yeongdong and Cheongni on the 17th.
According to the Task Force, KEPCO is in the process of building a 154kv high-voltage transmission line from Cheongni-myeon, Sangju-si to Yongsan-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, based on the 8th electricity supply and demand plan.
The problem was canceled due to strong protests from residents during the opening of the resident briefing session in May last year, but KEPCO accused the site selection committee of organizing a plan to divide the village of Umae-ri into two parts.
In addition, the task force requested that the list of site selection committee members and the minutes of the meeting be disclosed, but it was rejected. Nevertheless, the residents recognized the importance of the national project and responded to the dialogue with KEPCO seriously, but the meeting that continued for several months said that KEPCO's wasted and formal response.
Afterwards, KEPCO said in an ultimatum, 'KEPCO did its best. Now that the construction is going on, residents should accept the planned route of the first site selection committee and figure out what countermeasures residents can take against KEPCO. I will notify KEPCO of the progress of KEPCO's construction by registered mail."
Through a press conference, the task force urged the re-examination of the unilateral and dictatorial construction project and expressed its will to stop the action at the risk of the residents' lives if it was enforced.
