【충북 브레이크뉴스】임창용 기자=충북 영동군이 코로나19에도 해외 도시와 지속적인 소통을 이어가며 우호협력 관계 구축과 글로벌 경쟁력 강화에 공을 들이고 있다.

 

 군은 지난 26일과 27일 이틀에 거쳐 호주 시드니 한인 대표단, 미국 해외협력위원회와 각각 온라인 간담회를 진행했다.

 

 군은 그동안 탄탄히 다져온 우호 관계를 확인하며, 상생발전 방안을 모색하고자 이번 소통의 자리를 마련했다.

 

 26일 시드니 한인 대표단과의 간담회에는 박세복 영동군수를 비롯해, 시드니 한인회 강흥원 회장, 민주평통 호주협의회 고동식 회장, 대양주 한인회 총연합회 백승국 회장, 재호주 대한체육회장 신필립 회장, 호주한인공익재단 승원홍 이사장, 세계한인민주회의 이수길 대양주 부의장 등이 참여했다.

 

 27일 미국 해외협력위원회와의 간담회에는 스펜서 시의원, 영동군 미국 해외협력위원회 유근배 위원장, 이스트베이 한인회 김경환 이사장·정흠 회장, 신희정 알라미다 자매도시 교류협회 한국담당위원 등이 참여했다.

 군은 먼저 지난 한해 영동군의 주요 이슈와 군정 활동 영상을 보여주며, 영동의 여러 소식들을 알렸다.

 

 이어, 신년 새해 인사와 함께, 양 도시 및 단체 간 상호 발전, 공동 번영을 꾀하기 위한 허심탄회한 대화의 시간을 가졌다.

 

 빠르게 변하는 국제 흐름에 대응하고, 코로나19 등 국제적 위기 극복을 위해서는 지역 경계를 넘은 유기적인 소통과 협력이 중요함을 재확인하며, 앞으로의 교류 방향에 대해 심도있게 논의했다.

 

 그동안 교육, 문화예술, 경제, 관광 등 다양한 방면으로 교류해왔던 양 도시의 위상 강화를 위한 방안과 청소년 교류계획 등의 다양한 안건이 다루어졌다.

 

 군은 이들 안건들의 면밀한 검토를 거쳐, 영동군 국제교류 기본계획에 반영할 예정이다.

 

 군은 이날 간담회를 시작으로 해외 자매도시들과 화상회의 앱을 이용한 온라인 간담회를 지속 추진하며 공동 발전과 위기 극복에 힘쓰기로 했다. 

 

 박세복 군수는 이날 한인 대표들에게 “올해는 반드시 코로나19의 역경을 극복하고 평온한 일상으로 돌아가 얼굴을 마주하길 바란다”라고 말하며, 영동군이 글로벌 지방정부로 도약하고 앞서갈 수 있도록 정책 공유와 협조를 부탁했다.

 

 한편, 영동군은 3개 국제 도시와 자매결연을 맺고 있으며, 4개 해외 단체․도시와 우호협력 관계를 유지하며, 지속적인 소통을 하고 있다.

 

 코로나19 사태 이후에는 국내외 자매결연·우호협력도시(기관)에 서한문과 응원 영상 전달, 온라인 간담회 등을 진행하며 위기 극복과 상호발전의 토대를 다지고 있다.
