 이미 KBO는 2022년에 충북 보은군을 ‘KBO 야구센터’로 선정하고 전국 초․중․고․대학 선수들은 물론 국가 대표와 프로 야구 선수들의 훈련을 지원하기로 운영 업무 협약을 체결한 바 있다.

 김영환 충북도지사는 “이번 허구연 총재의 방문으로 충북 야구장 인프라 구축을 위한 마중물이 될 것이라고 기대하며, 지역 스포츠에 대한 관심이 증가할 것”이라며, “충북의 야구 저변 확대를 위한 발전 기반을 충북에 다지기 위해 노력할 것이며, KBO와 함께 지역 스포츠 활성화 방안을 마련하겠다”라고 밝혔다.

 아울러 이날 김영환 충북도지사는 6게임으로 한정된 한화이글스 청주 야구장 경기 수를 10게임으로 확대해 줄 것을 요청했다.
