【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=충북 증평군이 다가오는 환경의 날(6월 5일)을 기념해 지역의 미래세대를 대상으로 기후위기의 심각성을 알리고 환경 보호 의식을 심어주는 특별한 교육의 장을 마련했다.

증평군은 지난 2일 관내 초등학교를 방문해 1학년과 4학년 학생 120여 명을 대상으로 ‘탄소중립 및 기후위기 대응 교육’을 전격 실시했다고 밝혔다. 이번 교육은 아이들이 기후변화의 원인을 쉽게 이해하고 일상 속에서 탄소 배출을 줄이는 방법을 자연스럽게 체득할 수 있도록 돕기 위해 기획됐다.

특히 이번 프로그램은 딱딱한 주입식 이론 강의에서 벗어나 아이들이 온몸으로 체감할 수 있는 재미있는 체험 활동을 병행해 큰 호응을 얻었다.

가장 인기를 끌었던 프로그램은 일상에서 흔히 버려지는 커피 찌꺼기(커피박)를 재활용해 나만의 귀여운 열쇠고리(키링)를 만드는 ‘업사이클링’ 체험이었다. 학생들은 쓸모없다고 생각했던 쓰레기가 새로운 가치를 지닌 예쁜 제품으로 재탄생하는 과정을 직접 눈으로 확인하고 손으로 만져보며, 자원 순환과 환경보호의 중요성을 몸소 배우는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌다.

증평군은 갈수록 심각해지는 이상기후와 기후위기 상황 속에서 어린이들이 어릴 때부터 올바른 환경 가치관을 가질 수 있도록 앞으로도 흥미롭고 다채로운 환경교육 프로그램을 지속해서 확대 운영할 방침이다.
