【충북 브레이크뉴스】김봉수 기자=음성군의 작은 영화관인 설성시네마가 문화체육관광부가 주최하고 영화진흥위원회가 주관하는 ‘2026 작은영화관 기획전’ 공모사업에 최종 선정됐다.  

이번 공모는 전국 72개의 작은영화관을 대상으로 진행됐으며, 심사를 거쳐 설성시네마를 포함한 25개소만이 최종 운영관으로 선발됐다. ‘작은영화관 기획전’은 문화 소외지역의 소규모 영화관을 중심으로 예술·독립영화와 기획 콘텐츠를 상영해 지역 주민에게 다양한 문화 체험 기회를 제공하는 문화복지 사업이다.  

이번 선정으로 설성시네마는 대관료 등 국비 540만 원을 지원받아 오는 10월부터 11월 20일까지 기획전을 운영한다. 운영 기간 동안 상영작 단매계약 및 섭외 DCP(디지털 영사본) 수급을 지원받으며, 영화관 자체 기획 프로그램의 영화 수급도 함께 지원받게 된다.  

이번 기획전은 ‘지나간 것은 지나간 대로’라는 주제 아래 익숙한 정서와 추억, 잔잔한 감동을 다시 마주할 수 있는 작품들로 상영작을 구성해 전 회차 무료로 선보일 계획이다. 구체적인 상영 일정과 작품 라인업은 영화진흥위원회와 협의를 거쳐 하반기 중 공지된다.  

군 관계자는 이번 선정을 통해 문화 향유 기회가 상대적으로 부족한 지역 주민들이 양질의 영화를 무료로 관람할 수 있게 됐다며, 세대별 맞춤 프로그램을 충실히 준비해 설성시네마가 지역 문화 거점으로 자리매김할 수 있도록 노력하겠다고 밝혔다.  

한편 지난 2022년 개관한 설성시네마는 음성읍 생활권 주민들의 영화관람 기회 제공과 문화 향유를 목적으로 추진된 음성읍 농촌중심지활성화 사업을 통해 건립됐다. 설성문화회관 3층에 위치하고 있으며 2개관 94석의 상영관과 매점, 매표소 등의 시설을 갖추고 있다. 매주 화요일부터 일요일까지 최신 영화를 상영하며 주민들의 문화 접근성을 높이는 데 기여하고 있다.

Eumseong County Selected for 'Small Cinema Special Exhibition'... Free Screenings Starting October

Seolsung Cinema, a small cinema in Eumseong County, has been finally selected for the ‘2026 Small Cinema Special Exhibition’ open call project, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korean Film Council.

The open call targeted 72 small cinemas nationwide, and following a screening process, only 25 locations, including Seolsung Cinema, were selected as the final operating venues. The ‘Small Cinema Special Exhibition’ is a cultural welfare project that provides local residents with diverse cultural experiences by screening art and independent films as well as curated content, centered around small cinemas in culturally underserved areas.

With this selection, Seolsung Cinema will receive 5.4 million won in state funding, covering rental fees and other expenses, to operate the special exhibition from this coming October until November 20. During the operating period, the cinema will receive support for single-sale contracts for screenings and the procurement of DCPs (Digital Film Packages), as well as assistance with securing films for the cinema’s own curated programs. Under the theme "Let the Past Be Past," this special exhibition plans to offer free screenings for all showings, featuring a lineup of works that allow audiences to revisit familiar sentiments, memories, and gentle emotions. The specific screening schedule and lineup will be announced in the second half of the year following consultations with the Korean Film Council.

A county official stated that this selection will allow local residents, who have relatively limited opportunities to enjoy culture, to watch high-quality films for free. The official added that they will strive to establish Seolsung Cinema as a regional cultural hub by faithfully preparing programs tailored to different age groups.

Meanwhile, Seolsung Cinema, which opened in 2022, was constructed through the Eumseong-eup Rural Center Revitalization Project, which was promoted to provide movie-watching opportunities and cultural enjoyment for residents in the Eumseong-eup living area. Located on the third floor of the Seolsung Cultural Center, it is equipped with facilities including two screening rooms with 94 seats, a concession stand, and a ticket office. It screens the latest films every Tuesday through Sunday, contributing to improving residents' access to culture.
